Cafe World Spring Fling Catering Order: Finish in time to receive Crab Spring Roll recipe

Do you live in a climate that's still receiving snow and other winter weather? Wish that you could throw on some shorts and flip-flops and hit the beach? Well, you can, at least virtually via Cafe World's Spring Fling Catering Order. Don't get confused - this order has nothing to do with the two Easter-themed events that have also recently launched in the game (the Egg Hunt Catering Order, and the Egg Hunt Goals - both of which have guides here on Games.com - The Blog!) - this is a completely separate order that will see you unlocking a new recipe for your cookbook, if you can complete it in time.

This order is a fairly complex one, and fairly difficult as well, requiring you to cook three dishes, along with collecting three items from your friends. You'll have five days as your starter time limit, which does give you more time to accomplish these six tasks, but don't say I didn't warn you - this one's a toughie.

To start, you'll be spending most of your time cooking three dishes. You'll need to serve Lemon Butter Lobster (a two-hour dish) a whopping 550 times, Seafood Paella (a 14-hour dish) 250 times, and Sirius Sorbet (a 30-minute dish) 150 times. Sure, the Sirius Sorbet and Seafood Paella may not take high-level chefs long to complete, but 550 Lemon Butter Lobsters? Good luck to all of us with that one.

You'll be able to bring 13 of your friends in on this mission with you (for a total Catering Crew of 14 people), but you'll be on your own with collecting the three collectible items: 19 Plastic Cups, 10 Beach Towels, and 9 Suntan Lotions. Is it just me, or does this catering order seem more like a Summer-themed one than Spring? Anyway, you'll be able to gather these items by simply sending out individual gift requests to your friends asking for them.

If you can manage to complete everything within five days, you'll receive the three-star rating, 12 Catering Points, 6,300 Cafe Points, 175,000 coins and the Crab Spring Roll recipe. If you can't manage it within five days, but still finish within a week after starting, you'll receive two stars, eight Catering Points, 4,500 Cafe Points and 125,000 coins. Finally, if you finish the mission at any time after the first week, you'll receive a single star, four Catering Points, 2,700 Cafe Points, and 75,000 coins.

Luckily, this catering order doesn't seem to be time-specific, in terms of how long it will be available to complete, so if you'd rather wait until a later time to attempt it (say, when you can outfit your cafe with more Lightning Stoves), go right ahead. Just keep in mind that your best chance of finishing is right at the start, since most of your friends will be working on it / close to finishing it already as well.

What do you think of the requirements for this Catering Order? Is the Lemon Butter Lobster requirement too high?

FrontierVille Water Well Collection offers Watermill and XP as rewards

As many of you have already figured out (and probably started working on), a new Water Well is now available to "discover" and build in FrontierVille. And, as usual, with any new building comes a new collection. This newest collect is called the Water Well Collection, and, appropriately, it is filled with items related to water that you'll need to collect before you can turn it in.

The five items can be found by either whacking on the Wellspring as you try to construct the frame of your Well, or by collecting the Bonus from a finished Well on your Homestead. For finishing this collection, you'll receive a Watermill and 50 experience points. Here's what to keep an eye out for:

Waterskin
Rubber Duckie
Mineral Water
Towel
Dipper

This collection is a rather interesting one, due to the fact that a completed Well can only be collected from (in terms of receiving bonuses) ten times before "drying up." At that point, you'll have to go through the process of finding another Wellspring, which takes time, so you may have to wait quite a while before you're able to turn this collection in, unless you're simply inherently lucky. If that's the case, share some luck over this way, will ya? There's plenty of items I could use on my Homestead!

What do you think of the Water Well collection? Do you like this new water-centric theme the game has taken on over the weekend?

Official FarmVille Podcast (04/25/2011): Rotate animal buildings, store more bushels

In this week's official FarmVille Podcast, FarmVille Community Manager Lexilicious was on-hand to give us a sneak peek of some coming attractions to the game. First, animal collectors will be very happy to learn that rotation will soon be added to many of the game's animal storage buildings including the Chicken Coop, Dairy Barn, Pig Pen, Turkey Roost, Duck Pond, and Animal Trough.

In another future update, we'll be able to expand the amount of crop Bushels we can hold on our farms simply by adding more Market Stalls to our land. The ratio will be 25 new Bushels added to your maximum capacity for every one Market Stall you add to your land, after your first Market Stall (which can be thought of as providing the current 100 slots).

All in all, this wasn't a very informative podcast, but we're definitely happy with the coming ability to rotate our animal buildings, so giving the full podcast a listen definitely wasn't a waste of time.

What do you think of the two announcements revealed in this week's podcast?

FarmVille Sneak Peek: Royal Wedding decorations and Corgi puppy

A small set of unreleased images have surfaced in FarmVille today, with three of these four new items coming to the game's Enchanted Love / Royal Wedding item theme, celebrating the real-world marriage between Prince William and Kate Middleton. These three items are the Wedding Fountain, the Wedding Bouquet, and the Royal Flower Pot.

The other item? Well, it's one that dog-lovers will certainly appreciate, as it will mark the first time we've seen a new canine available in the game in a long time. A new Corgi puppy will be coming to the game, but it is unknown right now as to whether or not the puppy will be available for Farm Cash or coins. More likely than not, you'll need to shell out some serious Farm Cash (likely 60 or more) to add this cute little fella to your farm, but again, that's just speculation at this point.

We'll make sure to let you know when all of these items officially launch in the game, so keep checking back.

How much should the Corgi cost? What price (either coins or Farm Cash) would make you comfortable with purchasing one?

FarmVille Pig Breeding: Everything you need to know

Soon, your farm will be filled with little piglets, oinking and slopping around in your Pig Pen. Pig Breeding has arrived in FarmVille, and luckily half of the work has already been done for you. To start getting your Pigs hitched, you'll need a completed Pig Pen. If you've yet to build one, check out our guide right here. (Don't worry, we'll wait. You're good? Cool.) But to take a crash course in the basics of Pig Breeding, join us behind the break.
Pig Breeding
Before we begin, remember that you can only have one Pig Pen per farm. If you attempt to place the offered Pig Pen on a farm that already has one, you'll receive and Out Of Sync error message. Once you've finished the Pig Pen and acquired both a Boar and a Sow (a male and female, respectively), it's time to breed. Just click on your Pig Pen and then "Look Inside." Then, just like with Sheep Breeding, click on one male and one female pig. Right then and there, you'll be given the option to introduce Love Potions into the mix. These items come about once every four hours, but you can also ask your friends for more. Adding more Love Potions decreases the time spent breeding and increases the success rate that a Piglet is actually born.

    0 Love Potions: 50% chance; 24 hours
    1 Love Potion: 60%; 12 hours
    2 Love Potions: 70%; 6 hours
    3 Love Potions: 80%; 3 hours
    4 Love Potions: 90%; 1 hour
    5 Love Potions: 100%; instant

As you can see, Love Potions are extremely valuable. Thankfully, Zynga is working on making them a crafting item. The sex of your piglet is randomly determined upon birth, though some of the factors that affect Sheep Breeding likely come into play here as well. Once two pigs are done making a baby, a "Ready!" button will appear above the stall the two pigs--click it and the you should have your brand new piglet.

Piglets
Now, you again have the option to either keep the piglet or give it to a friend. If you decide to keep it, you must feed it 10 Baby Bottles before it will grow into an adult Boar or Sow. Place the piglet anywhere on your farm and click on it to reveal a number of options. One is "Ask for Baby Bottles," which will post a News Feed that you're looking for the item. You can also send Baby Bottles to your friends through the Free Gifts page.

However, the color and patterns of the pig will be unknown until you raise it to maturity. Zynga states that there are several factors that contribute to the coloration and patterns of your pig, most of which are random. That said, trying to game the system to get that perfectly colored pig is a fool's errand. Finally, you can only have 100 piglets on your farm at a time. Now, you're finally ready to create the Truffle Hunting army of your dreams.

Zynga reduces FrontierVille free gifting limit to 32 (for some)

FrontierVille gifting limit reduced
Zynga has a funny way of doing things sometimes, and the most recent change detected by FrontierVille Info fits that modus operandi. The site reports that the company has reduced FrontierVille gifting limit to 32, eight slots down from the usual 40. For some, this might not seem like a big deal, but social gamers are used to their routines. Quite a few players will likely be upset by the fact that they must now choose who to give gifts to, essentially shutting out eight of their friends.

However, testing this change out myself yielded different results. When I attempted to give out 40 Free Gifts to friends, I had no issue doing so. This could be the result of a slow roll-out for this change, or Zynga is directly targeting players who send gifts in such large quantities too frequently. Regardless, players might have to be careful with who they send gifts to from here on out.

Have you seen this change to the gifting system in FrontierVille? How do you feel about Zynga reducing the gifting limit for at least some players?

Zynga adds DNA Games to its double helix; 14th acquisition in a year

Zynga has assimilated its fourteenth games company in just 12 months, DNA Games, VentureBeat reports. (At this point, it might be appropriate to dub Zynga "The Blob.") The small-time company, based in Zynga's backyard of San Francisco, is known for Casino City and BarWorld, though whether those games will still exist in their own right is unknown.

What we do know is that the DNA Games team, founded by Jon Lee and Shaun Hease in 2009, will provide their design and development skills to Zynga's next-generation social games. Co-founder Lee will serve as general manager of the new satellite studio and answer to senior VP of product development Mark Skaggs.

This acquisition seems to be just another grab for talent rather than a movement in a specific direction like Zynga with Friends. FrontierVille's Oregon Trail expansion is the only confirmed future Zynga release, so who knows what the former DNA Games will be up to. Perhaps Zynga needs some help with Mafia Wars 2?

Why do you think Zynga chose DNA Games as its 14th buyout? What could DNA Games be up to for the company?

FrontierVille Sneak Peek: The Saloon is a comin' with Varmint Julep

It might be time to start actually participating in those FrontierVille surveys, because it seems Zynga is starting to make good on those teased features. The first-ever images related to the unreleased Saloon in FrontierVille have been, well, released. The developer revealed three icons that are related to the upcoming building, though what they mean for the feature is till unknown.

The first is a set of books that look like bar tending textbooks, while the second simply depicts a man serving drinks. The third, a picture of what Zynga calls Varmint Julep (a nod to the popular southern drink), is a dead giveaway. At least we think it is--it appears that players will either buy alcoholic drinks for their avatars or learn how to craft and serve them. Let's just hope some of those other potential features make it into the new building like card games and a social space for friends. See, it pays to answer the surveys.

What do you think will make it into the Saloon? If you could create the new FrontierVille building, what would it include?

Angry Birds downloaded over 200 million times; it's just the beginning

To say that Angry Birds is bigger than you think is a severe understatement. That's especially so considering that the irate avian creatures soared past even Rovio's expectations. In a short interview with TechCrunch during the Next 11 Conference in Berlin, Germany, Rovio Mighty Eagle (don't ask what the title means) Peter Vesterbacka reveled in the news: Angry Birds has reached over 200 million downloads. Of course, that's across all platforms including most recently Google's Chrome Web Store, which already enjoy 5 million Angry Birds fans.

Rovio predicted previously that it would hit 100 million downloads in 2011, so you can understand the laughter in Vesterbacka's video interview with TechCrunch. So, what's next? Rovio is gonna' ride this wave into even more toys, games and even possibly a feature film revolving around the pig-smashers.

The company recognizes how difficult it is for a developer to strike gold (Rovio made 50 games before the ubiquitous Angry Birds), so it's not about to let go of a good thing. Scratch that--an incredibly lucrative thing that appears to make money through some form of alchemy or dark magic.

However, Vesterbacka is looking into other markets, namely China, to create another mega hit in vein of the wildly successful Hello Kitty. He's also looking into integrating location-based services into the Angry Birds brand. With this many avenues open for the Angry Birds, expect them to be around well into 2011 and beyond.

Bejeweled maker PopCap to pop on the market as early as November

PopCap, the creator of casual hits like Bejeweled and Plants vs. Zombies, is looking to make waves on the stock market as early as November, Reuters reports. The Seattle-based, but globally-stretched, casual and social games developer teased its public stock debut to us just a month ago. According to Reuters, however, the time for teasing is over.

"We are very much in the process of preparing a listing," PopCap CEO David Roberts (pictured) revealed in a press conference. "We expect to be ready to be listed as early as November this year. Whether we go, will depend on the market... we don't want to rush into it." The company has been in talks with investment firms, gauging the viability of its initial public offering (IPO), or when a company opens itself up for public investment.

And the company has been expanding rapidly in preparation for the big event. PopCap recently bought Baking Life creator ZipZapPlay to boost its social games presence, and just announced that it will soon launch its social games in China as well through Renren, the country's most popular social network.

All the while, the Peggle-peddler's biggest rival, Zynga, still remains mum on its IPO. With an estimated valuation of nearly $10 billion, CEO Mark Pincus and crew don't have to be in any rush, which could be exactly why PopCap is so ready to do so. The potential influx of cash from an IPO could be the shot in the arm the company needs to compete on the Zynga level.

However, this type of move is also extremely risky: Its value could plummet if investors don't bite. Though, if our addiction to Zuma Blitz around the office is any indication, this scenario is highly unlikely.

How do you think PopCap will fare once it goes public? Could this be the boost the company needs to compete with Zynga for casual games heavyweight title?

Tagged hires former EA, Pogo VP to run social games, compete with Facebook

Another former EA bigwig has been snagged, or rather, tagged. The self-proclaimed social network for meeting new people, Tagged, has hired Andrew Pedersen (pictured) as VP and general manager of its brand new social games division.

Formerly VP of EA's casual web games portal, Pogo, Pedersen will oversee the 100-million-strong social network's five existing social games and the creation of its own dedicated social games studio. Pedersen most recently served as senior VP for Blue Noodle, a firm that connects brands with casual and social games.

"We wanted the best in the social gaming field to lead our efforts, and in Andrew Pedersen we got what we wanted," says Tagged CEO Greg Tseng in a statement. "Under Andrew's guidance our Studio is primed to deliver unique titles that don't just entertain an audience, but also inspire players to build new connections. It's an exciting move for us, and for social gaming in general."

With Pedersen's help, Tagged will create future social games in-house, three of which are already in development. According to a release, the network's number one game, Pets, enjoy 5 million trade interactions daily. (Note: this doesn't necessarily mean 5 million daily players.) Before overseeing the creation of the Pogo subscription service for EA, Pedersen helped craft additions to classics like Prince of Persia and Carmen Sandiego. Whether Tagged aims to compete directly with Facebook is unknown, but with Pedersen on board that's certainly a possibility.

Have you ever played a game on the Tagged network? Do you think that with Pedersen's help, Tagged could compete with Facebook as a social gaming hub?

FarmVille Mexico Items: Mariachi Costume, Jacaranda Tree, Azteca Horse and many more

Tonight's FarmVille update does a great job of catching us up with new items (after the past weeks of re-releases), as there have been two new themes launched in the game's store. This first theme, the Mexico theme, comes chalk full of trees, animals, buildings, decorations, and even a costume for you avatar. Without further ado, here's a complete rundown of the items that are available thus far.

Trees:

Jacaranda Tree - 5 Farm Cash
Vera Wood Tree - 10 Farm Cash

The Jacaranda Tree, as you'd expect, is the level one tree is this pair, so if you'd rather save some Farm Cash, you can just purchase it and then wait for a Vera Wood Tree to appear from Mystery Seedlings. Both of these new trees can be mastered, with the first star coming at 75 harvests.

Animals:

Bull - 20 Farm Cash
Azteca Horse - 26 Farm Cash

Don't be fooled by the Bull here. This is he exact same Bull we've seen on the free gifts page time and time again, or even as a free lost pet that would show up on your farm. Unless you're desperate for another Bull on your land, as you have a Dairy Barn currently without one (remember, they allow for the breeding of calves), please do yourself a favor and save your Farm Cash for something else. It's highly unlikely that we won't see the Bull available for free again in the future.

Buildings:

Mexican Home - 300,000 coins
Mexican Farmhouse - 25 Farm Cash

Both of these buildings offer hefty experience point rewards, at 3,000 for the Mexican Home and 2,500 for the Mexican Farmhouse.

Decorations:

Quetzal Bird - 18 Farm Cash
Mariachi Gnome - 15 Farm Cash
Pincushion Cactus I - 5,000 coins
Pottery Stand - 100,000 coins
Pincushion Cactus II - 1,000 coins

As you'd expect, the Pincushion Cactus II item is much smaller, and less detailed the the first, explaining its lower price tag. Also keep in mind that the Quetzal Bird is decorative only, and can't be harvested from. As for the Pottery Stand, this is a fairly small, but highly detailed item, that takes up about the space of the Garden Shed on your land.

Avatar Clothing:

Mariachi Costume - 10 Farm Cash

Rounding out this theme is the Mariachi Costume, with the same costume being available for both genders of avatars. This costume comes complete with a sombrero and trumpet, really helping your avatar look the part. Unfortunately, there isn't additional animation of the avatar playing the trumpet, which would be fantastic, but the look itself is still rather cute.

All of these items will be available in the game's store for the next two weeks. With the July 4th theme also beginning in the game this evening, it will be interesting to see if more Mexican themed items are released, or if this is a one-and-done scenario. Either way, we'll make sure to let you know as that becomes clear.

FarmVille July 4th Trees: July Confetti Tree and Giant July Confetti Tree

While there seemed to have been some sort of a mix-up at the FarmVille offices concerning the launch of Giant July Confetti Trees as Mystery Seedlings, all of that has been cleared up this evening, as both that tree and the regular July Confetti Tree have been released in the marketplace.

The trees come with the lower of the two standard price points, at 5 Farm Cash for the regular July Confetti Tree and 10 Farm Cash for the giant version. This, of course, means that you can easily save those 10 Farm Cash and continue to receive Giant July Confetti Trees from Mystery Seedlings, either posted by your friends to your news feed, or received from harvesting Orchards.

While not in the least bit realistic, I have to say these are two of the prettiest trees Zynga has released in FarmVille in recent memory, and I'm definitely looking forward to adding them to my farm, and earning their mastery signs sometime in the future.

Check out the rest of our July 4th coverage right here.

What do you think? Do you like the look of these two new trees? Will you try to master them in time for the actual July 4th celebration in the US?

FarmVille July 4th Animals: American Flag Ewe shows off her patriotism

With tonight's FarmVille update, and the release of the July 4th limited edition item theme we may only see the release of one new animal, but she's a real looker! The American Flag Ewe has donned the stars and stripes with wool that can only be described as incredibly patriotic - well, incredibly pretty too.

This American Flag Ewe can be purchased for 20 Farm Cash. Breeders take note, though. This is specifically labeled as being a Ewe, so we're not seeing the release of a flag pattern for breeding. We can't rule that out for future releases, but it is something to keep in mind for tonight (and the next two weeks that this animal is available in the store).

Even if you're not a sheep breeder in the game, this one is so cute that I can definitely see the draw of purchasing one just to have it on your farm to look at. Hopefully, with enough users agreeing (and actually purchasing them), we'll see more flag-themed animals released before July 4th proper, and if that's the case, we'll make sure to let you know.

FarmVille July 4th Decorations: Summer Lawn Chairs, Festival Table and more

What goes better with July 4th festivities than backyards and barbecues? Ok, maybe fireworks, but that's for another time. For the picnic and cook-out lover in all of us, Zynga has released a set of four items in the new FarmVille July 4th limited edition item theme that are for doing just that. What's more, all four of these items go for coins!

First, there's the Festival Table, which is technically just a picnic table, but it has been decorated with a flag table runner, glasses of lemonade, plates, and even animated sparklers. It's super cute, and you can add one to your farm for just 50,000 coins. To go along with this, you have three different seating options: the Summer Lawn Chairs offer a red and blue chair with a white drink table in the middle (more lemonade and American flags sit atop the table) for 20,000 coins, while individual Red and Blue Lawn Chairs go for 5,000 coins each.

I don't know about you, but I've been saving up my one-time-use fireworks for just such an occasion, and these chairs will allow me to make the perfect seating arrangement for my imaginary farmers to watch a spectacular show. Of course, how many chairs you purchase, and what you do with them is up to you, but you'll need to shop relatively quickly. After the next two weeks, these items will be gone from the store, but if more July 4th items are released in the meantime (as there likely will be), we'll make sure to let you know.

Check out the rest of our July 4th coverage right here.

Do you like these new July 4th decorations in FarmVille? What sort of a setup will you create with these individual lawn chairs?

FarmVille Mystery Game (06/26/11): Mexican Animals now available

Unlike last week, where we were left without a FarmVille Mystery Game for a few days, this week's game has updated on time and on "schedule." This week, we see the Mexico limited edition item theme carrying over into the Mystery Game, as a set of Mexican themed animals are now available to win.

This week's game costs 20 Farm Cash and includes a Unicorn. Now that I have your attention, here's the complete rundown of possible prizes:

Bobcat
Donkey
Golden Eagle
Howler Monkey
Mexican Unicorn
Ocelot

While the Mexican Unicorn will likely be the most sought after item of this series, we'd also expect it to be the most rare. Remember, if you have any spare Mystery Darts lying around, use those first before shelling out Farm Cash so that you can increase your chances of walking away with one of those beauties for no additional cash.

As usual, this week's Mystery Game will only be available to play until next Sunday evening, so make sure to play early and play fast so as to not forget and miss out on these animals (possibly for good).

Which of these animals would you most like to see on your farm? Are you going to play this week's game, or do you not want to take the risk that you won't receive what you want?

Zynga's Empires & Allies conquers FarmVille in just under a month

Is FarmVille on its way out? Not even close, but the game is losing its luster ... at least compared to the new Zynga hotness: Empires & Allies. The strategy combat game has reached 41 million players in just 25 days, which defeats FarmVille's 38 million monthly players, according to AppData. Of course, this is the second time a new Zynga game has ousted FarmVille, the first being none other than CityVille.

And that game holds 90 million monthly players. We've already touched on why this game has grown just as, if not more, quickly than Zynga's own hit games, but it again boils down to Zynga leveraging its own fan base.

It's a shame to say for the others out there, but Zynga is kinda competing with itself at this point. And until a competitor reaches that caliber of traffic, that's how it will be. (Can the speculation end now?)

And the quality of Zynga's games is only improving, and the company is slowly moving onto mobile with the recent original games for iOS: Hanging with Friends and CityVille Hometown (soon to be released). If E&A keeps going at this rate, where will it stop? Could it perhaps even surpass CityVille's peak of 100 million players. Give it another month and we'll see.

Games boost productivty, GSN Digital study says (of course)

And take it from us. Alright, so both are somewhat biased opinions that are likely preaching to the choir--we all need a back pat every once in a while. GSN Digital, creators of Facebook games like Wheel of Fortune and Jeopardy!, have released a study that surveyed 800 GSN Digital gamers on how games have affected their productivity. And the responses will surprise you.

Nearly 80 percent of folks questioned said that they feel more productive after taking breaks during the work day to play video games. (It's the periodic mental breaks, apparently.) And 59 percent of players say that less than 30 minutes of game time daily during work hours increases creativity and reduces stress.

However, GSN does point out that 35 percent of respondents play during work hours, which is significant. But a whopping 53 percent of workers play games on lunch or during official breaks. And don't ask us our opinions, you know what we'll say.

Words with Friends is live on Facebook; can you spell 'H-O-O-K-E-D?'

We sure hope so, because that's what you'll be this weekend on Facebook. Zynga has officially released Words with Friends to Facebook, and it's basically what millions already love about the mobile game on, well, Facebook. And we say that it's no different because the game will literally import your existing Words with Friends games from your iOS or Android device.

From there, you can pick up and play games from either Facebook or your mobile device and back again. In other words, you officially have no reason to ignore your friends' game requests. Yes, even if you're scared of losing miserably to that one literati friend that preys on your sub-200 scores.

The game brings in a number of new features as well, namely Brag Feeds. These allow players to call out their friends publicly on their News Feed for owning them with that nasty triple word score. And, just like on your iPhone, Words with Friends for Facebook will send your opponent notifications of their turn through requests.

Words with Friends Facebook in action
Finally, you can challenge your friends directly through the News Feed to new games, which of course can be picked up on your iOS or Android device. And keep in mind, this is a first for Zynga, as never before has the company ported one of its mobile games to Facebook. (It's usually the other way around.) Though, this game originally is Newtoy's creation, the developer Zynga purchased this year to create one of its mobile studios, Zynga with Friends. Original game or not, we know exactly where you'll be this weekend. Don't worry, we'll be right there with you, racking up awesome triple word scores as all get out.

Zynga re-releases 13 Horses for Mastery; that's a lot of Farm Cash

We hope your pockets can support your collector's spirit. As you know, Zynga has finally released Animal Mastery to FarmVille. But, of course, the company saw this as a golden opportunity to make a few bucks, and has re-released several limited edition horses to the game for players to master through the new system.

However, every single one of them costs between 26 and 28 Farm Cash. That's a little more than $5 per horse, or over $50 if you're looking to master all 13 horses that you might have missed the first time around. See? We warned you about that collector's spirit, yearning for you to grab the plastic from your wallet and type in the simple 12-digit number. (Don't forget the security code and expiration date!)

Considering this is just a fraction of the limited edition animals (much less horses) Zynga has released over the past two years, expect plenty more urges. Just don't let those urges turn into overages, and you're in the clear.

Remember when you used to wake up on Saturday mornings before noon? It was to watch Saved By The Bell, wasn't it? The Fine Brothers, a YouTube video troupe, have launched an interactive YouTube game surrounding your favorite kids show. (And don't try to say it wasn't--everyone loved that show.)

The game pits you in three classic scenarios from the short-lived morning show that unfortunately shaped nearly every actors' career who starred in it. (Honesty, did you know really know Slater as Mario Lopez before he hosted Extra?) Better yet, it's presented exactly how video games were at the time: in beautiful 16-bit, Super Nintendo-style graphics and music.

Whenever the Saved By The Bell theme enters your head, it'll probably be in MIDI form from now on. Of course, the gameplay doesn't reach farther than, "Click this button before something bad happens!" But that doesn't detract from The Fine Brothers' spot-on humor nor the game's undeniable nostalgia level.

Seriously, these guys bring up things from the show that will have you laughing out loud in your cubicle. Get started with the game below, and the links will take you through a series of separate mini videos. Say goodbye to the next 10 minutes of your Friday. You're welcome.

Was Saved By The Bell your favorite show as a kid (there's only one answer to this, just to be clear)? How badly do you wish for this to become a full-blown video game? (Also ... one answer.

GnomeTown on Facebook: 1 tbsp Ravenwood Fair, 1 cup saccharin, fun

If cuteness were a virtue, GnomeTown, the new game from Playdom, would be the patron saint. Take a village of gnomes, add a gang of little critters with big eyes and give them mailboxes for houses. Even the game's adorable garden snails would be right at home on LOLcats.

But is the game fun?

No. Not at first. I was chatting with a colleague when I first started GnomeTown, and I made some snide remarks like, "It's Ravenwood Fair with different art." But a surprising thing happened at minute 31 or thereabouts. I started to enjoy myself.

GnomeTown (in beta) asks you to join an adventure to save some doe-eyed beasts and the King of the Shrouded Forest from an evil gnome. While the story is secondary, it does allow you to follow quests through a larger tale, much like, yes, Ravenwood Fair.

The game follows all the standards you would expect from a city-building/harvesting game. It doesn't break much ground in that regard. You build your garden town with gathered resources, harvest crops for extra goodies and explore the edges of your domain to discover new items and adventures. You can speed up tasks by spending gold (available for purchase) or cupcakes. Apparently, these fuzzballs like sugary icing. Probably to complement their scruffy, kootchy-wootchy, widdle faces. Cupcakes are delightfully available and easy to get, which makes finishing tasks much less burdensome than other games.

But in the midst of this standard-fare are some new treats. First, the concept of energy has been limited to only one dynamic -- clearing forest with your machete. Clearing the forest is important since it expands your borders and reveals treasures, but it's not critical. And, behold, you can remove junk from your garden, build, mine, and harvest to your heart's content! The result is you can play this game for a long time without fearing the inevitable "You're out of energy. Go bother your friends, spend money or we'll see you tomorrow!"

Another nice touch is that you control all the critters on the screen. So if you want to do five things at once you don't queue up the actions, you just have your five cutesters do the tasks at the same time. Very cool.

Finally, there are the Gnomespeditions. These are little adventures where you can interact with folks outside your friends list. Playdom pulled a card from their City of Wonders deck here, allowing you to Brawl, Journey or Party with other players. No communication required. Just click on a player, select one of those three buttons and the results are spit out. It's a good way to get a few extra items and maybe even find a new buddy.

On the downside, GnomeTown shows its beta status in a few ways.

First, when I returned to my garden for day two I was surprised to find that there wasn't a lot of new junk to clear. I actually had to look around for awhile to find new tasks. Second, going to a neighbor's garden town doesn't really provide much to do. Leave a gift, look around, zzzzzzz. And last, a lot of the quests in the early game require you to clean up stuff that, oops, I had already cleared. This is a common problem with games like GnomeTown, but it would be nice if we could get past it.

In the final analysis, GnomeTown enjoys a shiny veneer that you'd expect from a veteran developer like Playdom. The game looks nice and it doesn't crash much -- a welcome perk these days. Yes, you still need to get past all the tutorial messages. And the number of sharing pop-ups can step on your fun at first. But if you can get through the clunky beginning, the game is worth a whirl.

Got any must-know cheats or tips for GnomeTown? Or are you looking for friends to play the game with?

Facebook Game Faceoff: CivWorld vs Empires & Allies

Welcome back to Facebook Game Faceoff. This week, we're revisiting the strategy genre on Facebook. (You know, because its' huge, apparently.) In one corner, we have Empires & Allies (E&A), a returning combatant and Zynga's first strategy game effort. The other corner hold Civilization World (CivWorld for short), the social edition of one of the most respected strategy series ever created: Civilization by Sid Meier. The former takes a more accessible, strategy-light approach to the burgeoning genre, while the latter is an incredibly deep, serious effort to bring a true strategy game experience to Facebook.

As always, we'll pit each game against the other based on three criteria. First, we'll get right to the good part and see how each game handles combat or, you know, blowin' stuff up. Next up is a look at resource management within each game, two things no strategy game can be without. Finally, we'll compare how E&A and CivWorld's approached social interaction and player vs player combat (PvP), the lynch pin of Facebook strategy gaming. Ready ... Fight!

CivWorld Combat
War is Hell
And boy, does CivWorld take it seriously. In this strategy game, combat is a collective effort, tasking players within a given Civ (Firaxis's shorthand term for civilizations in the game) to join forces and each contribute units to any given battle with another Civ. Combat is handled in a card system in which each military unit--divided into Melee, Calvary, Ranged and Naval classes--is represented by a card with both Attack and Defense statistics. And with these cards, players can choose a Heroic attack at the cost of defense, Fortify at the cost of offense or simply choose the balance Normal approach.

It makes for a terribly deep combat system complete with considerations for weather and other factors. Though combat is not as flashy or explosive as one would hope for all of the stipulations attached. Especially considering that PvP battles, because they require many players to contribute, only occur every few hours or so. And not just any player can initiate a Civ on Civ battle--only those who rise to the rank of Prince over time can do that. Though, the Barbarians--the NPC (non-player character) villains of the game--give players a crack at smaller-scale battles in between the larger PvP struggles.

Empires Allies Combat
E&A, on the other hand, surrounds the player with combat scenarios. Combat overall is handled in a rock, paper scissors format. There are three classes of military units that players can create with varying strengths within each unit: Infantry, Naval and Air Force. Those classes are subdivided into smaller classes, and each subclass is effective against and vulnerable to three opposing subclasses. Combat is an asynchronous (between players), turn-based affair in which players trade explosive blows until one loses all of their units. Admittedly, combat in E&A won't do much to satisfy the true strategy enthusiast, though popping in and blowin' some stuff up takes mere seconds.

CivWorld Resources
We Need More Lumber!
Resource management is nearly CivWorld's strongest suit, and most faithful to the traditional games. There are five resources in CivWorld: Production, Science, Culture, Food and Gold. Players create houses within their nation that are home to Workers, jack-of-all-trades folk who can be switched to gather any of these five resources at any time. However, the resources you gather contribute to your greater Civ, not just your own nation (though, Production helps you create new buildings and military units). That said, it's best to focus on just one or two resources to help your Civ reach its goals to win a given era even faster. To spice things up, there are three admittedly entertaining mini games that can grant you resource bonuses.

Empires Allies resources
Anyone who has played FarmVille or CityVille already knows how resource management works in E&A. Players gather Coins, Wood, Oil and Ore--all of which are needed to create buildings and military units. Gathering resources in this game is more of a set-and-forget-it ordeal than anything, which isn't terribly exciting. However, players are forced to trade for the five types of Ore in the game, as each player's island only produces one type. This makes friendships in E&A slightly more strategic, though resource management on the whole is nothing more than a means to an end in this game.

CivWorld Community
'F' is for Friends Who Do Stuff Together
This is the meat and potatoes of CivWorld, and it's quite admirable how Firaxis has handled social interaction. Frankly, social interaction is so ingrained into the CivWorld experience that you literally will not win a single game of Civ without coordination with your friends. Everything you do in CivWorld is for the benefit of the whole, something few social games have accomplished, and it's all made possible through live chat. However, PvP combat is limited to the large struggles between Civs that take place rather infrequently. But again, for what it's worth, more developers should look to CivWorld for how to make social interaction compelling.

Empires Allies Interaction
In E&A, all social interaction and even PvP is done asynchronously, meaning players trade blows or trade favors in turns regardless of whether both are online. Players have the choice of either invading their friends' empires or helping them out. This will increase the player's Infamy or Honor, respectively, and unlock either offensive or defensive combat abilities. Through invasions, you occupy a friend's territory by strategically choosing a location with the fewest units and most resources and attack their units, controlled automatically. The player can then repel the invasion or have a friend help them. It makes for an interesting dynamic, but it's barely the stuff of more hardcore strategy games on Facebook.

Both Empires & Allies and CivWorld offer the depth and strategy that the genre calls for, though in varying degrees. CivWorld certainly brings more to the table in terms of both. But it's far too easy to get bogged down in features and stipulations when sometimes all you want to do is get to the combat, which isn't terribly exciting already. E&A is most definitely lighter (arguably too light) on strategy, interaction and depth, but focuses on where it counts: getting to its explosive PvP combat quickly. And for that, we'll have to declare Empires & Allies the winner of this Faceoff, though it was terribly close. But enough about what we think: It's time for you to decide the victor.

CivWorld vs. Empires & Allies: Which is the victor?
CivWorld is the better strategy game!Nah, Empires & Allies is where it's at!

New study finds women three times as likely to use Facebook Credits as men

PlaySpan and research firm VGMarket have partnered to study online purchases of virtual items or currency, using real-world money. Specifically, they were interested in how many gamers actually purchase goods, and in what kinds of games the most money is made. As reported by the Washington Post, the stereotype has been confirmed, as the study shows that women are three times as likely to purchase virtual content (not just in games) using Facebook Credits than men - a stat of 34% to 13%, to be specific.

For casual games specifically, the number becomes even greater, as women spend 40% more on virtual game items than men, and are twice as likely to purchase some form of decorative item for a profile, page or avatar as male gamers.

Another interesting set of stats comes with generalizing player responses to communication, as women are apparently less likely to respond to email promotions, and are much more willing to click on Facebook promotions (perhaps those that are in-game, or appear on the sidebar) as men. Specifically, 49% of men and 38% of women respond to email communications, while 31% of women respond better to Facebook promotions, as compared to 18% of men.

That's a lot of information to take in, but what it all seems to boil down to is that women will and are paying more for Facebook Credits in casual games... at least according to this survey. With the world of Facebook games being ever changing, it will be interesting to see if more men jump in to purchase Facebook Credits (perhaps in Empires & Allies, CivWorld or other "war" - stereotypically male - themes).

Do you agree with this study's findings, that women are more likely to spend money on Facebook Credits than men? Have you ever purchased Facebook Credits?

FarmVille Bug Report: Animals disappear in the middle of mastery

So... FarmVille Animal Mastery. It's great, right? Actually... not really, at least so far. You see, in the long, sad history of bugs and glitches in FarmVille, a new Animal Mastery bug might be one of the worse we've ever seen. According to some (as of this writing) isolated examples, farmers are apparently losing their animals when they begin mastering them. You'll master different star levels of a particular kind of animal, and then refresh your game to find they've vanished - poof!

For specific examples, we look at a round-up posted by user "Kimmeruwp." According to Kimme, after mastering level 1 of Squirrels (presumably Brown Squirrels), they all vanished. For another farmer, after reaching level two of the original Horse mastery, all of those animals vanished as well upon refreshing the game.

Now, I hate to alarm anyone, especially when there aren't many other claims (as of this writing) of issues occurring, but as this was just reported within the last few minutes, I find myself erring on the side of caution. It isn't impossible or even unlikely that Animal Mastery has been released with bugs in tow (this is Zynga, after all), so if I were you, I'd keep an extra eye on all of your animals, especially if you're about to hit that next mastery star. At the very least, take the extra time to manually harvest each animal, rather than using a Farmhand, and keep refreshing while doing so, just to keep an eye on things. Better safe than sorry, right? We'll make sure to let you know if this does become a larger issue, or if it remains isolated.

Have you had any animals disappear while trying to master them on your farm(s)?

FarmVille Sneak Peek: Will a third farm take us to New Hampshire?

So, our Home Farm and English Countryside may have us plenty busy in FarmVille, it looks like we might be able to travel to the Northeast - New Hampshire, to be exact - if a random menu image spotted by FVNation is anything to go by. We can see the game's travel menu (that you click on to travel between your Home Farm and English Countryside farm), which shows the New Hampshire farm as a location.

Now, this leaves me with a few thoughts. If this isn't a third farm that we'll be able to travel to, could it be that we'll instead be able to rename our farms, and this particular example shows a farm that happens to have been named "New Hampshire?" Perhaps that's reading too much into this, but New Hampshire seems like a bit too specific of a location to place a third farm. Heck, the very concept of already adding a third farm to the game seems out of place too! Still, the English Countryside expansion has gone over swimmingly well, so I can't really blame them for wanting to keep the train rolling.
Either way, this single menu screen gives us very little to go on, but we're excited about the possibilities that it could present. We'll make sure to stay on tops of things and will let you know if this image was a fluke, or if a third farm really is coming to the game.

Would you be willing to run a third farm? What do you think of the supposed New Hampshire location?

FarmVille English Countryside 26x26 and 28x28 land expansions now available for coins

While the 26x26 and 28x28 land expansions in FarmVille's English Countryside have been available for Farm Cash (100 and 120 Farm Cash each, respectively), users have had to wait until now to actually be able to buy them for coins. And while it's great that coins options are now available, unless you've been saving up coins for quite a while (or have a farm that really turns out the coins each day - say, with massive cow collections), you'll likely be stuck with you current farm for quite some time. In other words - these don't come cheap!

To start, the 26x26 English Expanse is available for 2.5 million coins, but first you'll need to round up some additional surveyors - totaling 25 in all, including those you've recruited for other expansions previously. This is done by sending out friend requests to your neighbors in order to add them to your crew. Once you've earned enough surveyors, you'll then be able to shell out the cash necessary. After that, you'll be able to move onto the 28x28 expansion, which costs 5 million coins. That's right - a whopping 5 million. I'll give you some time to let that settle in...

Yet again, you'll need to hire more surveyors, bringing your total to 30 in total. Finish that task, spend the five million coins, and you'll once again be at the biggest English Countryside farm that's currently available for coins. Unfortunately, a coin option for the 30x30 land expansion is nowhere in sight, but we'll make sure to let you know when that option eventually becomes available.

Will you purchase either of these expansions for coins immediately, or will you wait until you have plenty of excess coins to expand?

FarmVille: Earn a free Sebright Chicken with limited time Farm Cash offer

If you're in the market for some FarmVille Farm Cash, make sure to purchase some soon - like, within the next few hours soon. A new Farm Cash promotion has been launched in the game, allowing you to earn a free Sebright Chicken (normally a 20 Farm Cash chicken, which was part of the English Countryside theme) when you purchase one of three specific Farm Cash packages.

These bundles run from $1-20. Here's a look at how many Farm Cash you'll earn for the cash spent:
$1 - 4 Farm Cash
$5 - 25 Farm Cash
$20 - 115 Farm Cash

Regardless of the package you purchase, you'll receive the free Sebright Chicken, but as they'll only be available for a few hours, you'll need to grab some Facebook Credits fast in order to actually claim your prize. In order to activate the offer, you should only have to login to the game, as an offer window (pictured) will appear automatically, just as the Zynga Message Center automatically appears when launching the game. If you're not interested or don't feel obligated to make a purchase, simply X out the window and continue playing as normal. Just don't forget to make a purchase fast, if you do want the free chicken, as it won't be available forever (at least for "free").

What do you think of this latest Farm Cash bundle deal? Will you purchase one of the three bundles for a free Sebright Chicken, or do you already have one of those animals on your farm?

Dragon Age: Legends dev becomes BioWare San Francisco; could a Mass Effect Facebook game be on the way?

EA2D may not be a readily familiar name in the social gaming space, but I bet many of you have heard of their popular Facebook game - a tie-in to the popular console game Dragon Age called Dragon Age: Legends. This past week, EA underwent some corporate changes, and a very big change has occurred with EA2D in the process: They've been absorbed into the BioWare developer group, and will be renamed BioWare San Francisco.

While no other details about the company's future games have been released, let's speculate a bit. Since Dragon Age: Legends on Facebook launched at around the same time as Dragon Age 2 on consoles, does this transition to a true BioWare development studio mean that we'll see other Facebook games based on BioWare's hugely successful console properties? With Mass Effect 3 launching next year, will we see a Facebook game tie-in that will allow users to earn rewards for the console game by playing (as was the case with Dragon Age: Legends)? As a huge Mass Effect fan, my brain is drooling at the thought of free, exclusive goodies for my console character, so if this does turn out to be the start of another tie-in (or 12) with BioWare's games on Facebook, we'll make sure to let you know.

Would you play a Mass Effect game on Facebook, or do you prefer to interact with the franchise's characters on your consoles only?

FarmVille Raffle Booth Goals altered after raffle ticket bug

Leave it to Zynga to release a feature in FarmVille that comes with bugs. They've done just that (again) with the Raffle Booth goals we told you about earlier in the week. Some of the tasks for each goal have been altered slightly, allowing users a better chance to finish the goals in time (remember, at launch they were only available for two weeks and a few days have already gone by), and with less frustration at that.

Specifically, the amount of Raffle Tickets you'll need to collect for each goal has been lessened. The first goal now requires two Raffle Tickets, while goals two and three require three tickets each. That's down from six and nine tickets, as were the requirements before. in addition, the Harvest 100 Potatoes task is now Harvest 100 Peanuts, so I suppose some farmers likely planted potatoes for nothing.

Why the changes? Apparently, users were collecting tons of Raffle Tickets and the number simply wasn't going up; the game wasn't tracking that they had actually been collected. With any luck, this lower number of required tickets will actually count and we'll be able to complete these goals before its too late.

[Via FVNation]

Have you had any issues with the Raffle Booth goals in FarmVille? Should Zynga offer users some sort of compensation for the time they've lost sending out useless gift requests?

CityVille Zynga Gazette Upgrades: Everything you need to know

No, this isn't an upgrade to the way you accept gift requests in CityVille, although we probably need that too (seriously, how many times should I have to X that window out before it finally listens?!). This weekend's particular update gives a pair of upgrades to the game's Zynga Gazette community building (yeah, I know, I forgot that existed for a while too).

This community building will allow you to house even more citizens once you do upgrade it, but there are a couple of house rules you'll need to follow in order to begin the process. First, you must be at least level 23, and you also must have a population of at least 1350 citizens. Once you've met those two requirements, you'll see a neon green arrow sitting over the Zynga Gazette (the next time you collect your profits from the building), letting you know you're ready to go.

The first upgrade requires you to collect building materials: five each of Magnifying Glasses, Phones, Switchboards, Press Cards and Satellite Antennas. Collecting all of these items triggers a visual change in your building, as it transforms from white/silver to brown/orange. Your Gazette will then be able to support the housing of 750 citizens, up from the default total of 450.

But wait! The upgrade process isn't over yet! Once you city reaches a population of 2900 citizens, you'll be able to upgrade yet again to Level 3 by collecting even more of the above building materials. Finish that off by asking your friends to send you items and voila - your Zynga Gazette will reach its current maximum stat of supporting 1150 citizens in your town. Ultimately, that sees you adding the space for 700 citizens to your town with this single building, so it's not a bad set of upgrades to perform, even if it's casually and in the background while you place your major focus on other things (even other upgrades).

[Via Zynga]

Will you upgrade your Zynga Gazette, or are you fine simply building new community buildings whenever your population cap needs to rise?

Did Zynga remove Crop and Animal Accelerate Boosts from FrontierVille?

Either this is a bug, or the answer to that question is "yes." According to multiple reports on the official FrontierVille forums, it seem as though crop and animal acceleration boosts have gone entirely missing from the game. Users are searching their inventories time and time again, looking for boosts that they know were there, only to come back empty-handed.

Even methods that were previously known to give users an acceleration boost no longer seem to work. That is, when turning in collections that grant free boosts, the other prizes were rewarded, but not the boosts. The question now becomes "is this intentional," or better yet, "is it permanent?" Why would Zynga go through all of the trouble of creating this system of boosts (which can help any animal or crop grow faster), only to delete it from the game entirely? Were users not spending enough Horseshoes to purchase packets of boosts that way? Did they believe the boosts ruined the balance of the game? If so, why would they continually pass out free boosts as goal rewards?

Things just don't make sense here, but we can make a case for this being either a bug or downright purposeful. There's been no official comment by Zynga on the issue, so unfortunately there's no way of really knowing, at least for now. If Zynga makes an announcement acknowledging the missing crop/animal acceleration boosts (even in that announcement states that they've been removed from the game), we'll make sure to let you know.

Do you still have access to your crop and animal boosts in FrontierVille? If so, what do you think caused this major glitch for some of your fellow players? Do you actively use the boost system, or would you not care if Zynga really did remove it?

FarmVille Sneak Peek: Toadstool crops, Bellflower and Hanging Flower trees coming soon

A slew of new mastery signs have been found in FarmVille, giving us a sneak peek at two new crops and four new trees that should be launching in the game in the near future (perhaps as early as tomorrow evening, depending on what items are released in the expected update). FarmVille Freak has found the images, which include the Red and Purple Toadstools, which are two separate crops. If I had to make an educated guess, I'd say that both will likely be limited edition, but you might need to master one before being able to plant the other.

As for the trees, the four come in two pairs. The Bellflower trees come in both a normal and "giant" version, while a Pink Hanging Flower and Purple Hanging Flower look to be another pair that will likely offer you one from a Mystery Seedling, saving some of the Farm Cash that they'll inevitably cost.

All together, this gives us six new things to work on mastering, but there's no telling how much time (or how much Farm Cash) we'll have to spend to receive those exclusive mastery signs. We'll make sure to give you a complete rundown on the trees and crops as they're officially released in the game, so keep checking back.

What do you think of these six mastery signs? Are you more looking forward to mastering the crops or trees first? If these Toadstool crops cost Farm Cash licenses, will you purchase them?

FarmVille Vineyard Trees: Lucques Olive and Picholine Olive Tree

I'll admit it: when Zynga first launched the Vineyard limited edition item theme in FarmVille, I didn't think it would be around for this long. Yet, here we are going into another week of updates for the theme, starting with a new pair of trees - olive trees, to be exact.

Yet again, Zynga has chosen to stick with the 5/15 Farm Cash prices for these two trees as the Lucques Olive Tree costs 5 Farm Cash and the Picholine Olive Tree costs 15 Farm Cash. Remember though - there's no reason to get upset about this higher cost of the Picholine Olive Tree, as it's the level two tree in this equation, available for free through a variety of methods: either claiming one as a Mystery Seedling posted by your friends, claiming a full-grown tree (also posted by friends), or by randomly receiving a Mystery Seedling from harvesting your own Orchards that happen to contain the Lucques Olive Trees.

Whatever method you decide to rely on, you'll have the next two weeks to make a decision as to whether or not to purchase the Lucques Olive Tree. Even if you decide to pass on the second, five Farm Cash is a low price to pay for (ultimately) two trees, right?

What do you think of these new Vineyard Olive Trees? Are you upset that the cost of recent level two trees has increased from 10 to 15 Farm Cash?

FarmVille Vineyard Animals: Maremmano Horse and Alpine Dairy Goat

Here we go farmers: some of the first new animals with Animal Mastery included have been launched in the FarmVille marketplace, and they happen to be included in the Vineyard limited edition item theme. The Alpine Dairy Goat is a big XP earner, offering you 1400 experience points for purchasing one for 14 Farm Cash. In terms of animal mastery, the first star is received after four harvests (you can harvest the animal once every three days).

For horse lovers, you can purchase the Maremmano Horse instead, at a higher price of 26 Farm Cash. Even if you're not interested in mastering the Horse (the first star comes at just two harvests), you'll still have a chance of breeding the horse in your Horse Stable to receive a Maremmano Foal.

With so many animals (including those horses that were recently re-released) available to master under the new Animal Mastery system, I can definitely see both sides of the argument for whether or not to give these guys a purchase. Big item collectors will of course never choose to miss out on limited edition animals, but for the more casual player, they may wish to finish their current masteries on all available animals before adding even more to their plate. Regardless of the category you fall into, you'll have the next two weeks to make a purchase. Hopefully, your inner demons will have set you free by that time.

What do you think of these two Vineyard animals? Are you a horse collector that is going back and purchasing all of the re-released horses too?

FarmVille Vineyard Buildings: Lavender Cottage, Cheese Store and more

We normally only see two buildings released in every FarmVille update, but tonight we've been give three. Don't get too excited though - all three go for Farm Cash. Before we get into the discussion of whether or not this is fair, let's first take a look at the items themselves.

The first, and least expensive, is the Cheese Store at 20 Farm Cash. From there, there's a Lavender Cottage that will set you back 25 Farm Cash, and finally, the Vineyard Chateau is a substantial building that costs 30 Farm Cash to add to your farm. As for the prices, it will of course be up to you to decide whether or not one or all three of the buildings are worth their high price-tags, but I definitely am disappointed to not see a building marked for coins in this release.

In past circumstances, we've seen a system of "one for Farm Cash and one for coins," but as that seems to have disappeared, my only advice for the future would be to stock up on plenty of Farm Cash before every Wednesday and Sunday, just in case something exciting launches on those days. For these two, you'll have two weeks to decide whether they really are that "exciting."

So what do you think? Are any of these three buildings worth the Farm Cash purchase prices? Are they worth more than what you're paying? Would you buy them for coins if given the opportunity?

FarmVille Vineyard Decorations: Rusted Bike and Giant Barrel round out new options

As part of tonight's FarmVille update, we saw the launch of five new decorative items in the current limited edition Vineyard theme. Surprisingly, more of the items cost coins than Farm Cash. Ok, so the difference is only one item, but when so many things go for Farm Cash, I feel inclined to get a bit excited.

The two Farm Cash items are the Serene Waterfall and the Vineyard Garden, which are priced at 20 Farm Cash and 5 Farm Cash, respectively. Meanwhile, the coin items range in price from 8,000 to 20,000 coins, making them even more of a large bargain.

The first item is the Vineyard Planter, which costs 8,000 coins each to add to your land. Next is the Grape Barrel, which looks exactly as it sounds (pictured), and costs 15,000 coins. Finally, a Rusted Bike item costs 20,000 coins, and it happens to have a bucket of flowers behind the bike.

Even if you haven't started decorating your land to celebrate the Vineyard item theme, you still have time: these items will expire from the store in the next two weeks, so get to shopping!

What do you think of these latest Vineyard decorations? Are you excited about the selection of Vineyard items that have been released over the past few weeks, or have some items been left out?

FarmVille Mystery Game (08/08/11): Purple items reward you with a Snow Stallion

Here's an interesting combination: for the third week in a row, Zynga has decided to add a bonus item to the FarmVille Mystery Game, giving users a chance to receive a special item for free if they first win all six of the items regularly available in the game. But, in our case, this particular prize doesn't really match the others.

As it stands, this week's Mystery Game costs 18 Farm Cash to play, and will grant you a chance at a purple-themed decoration or animal. Here are the six prizes available:

Lavender Bridge
Lavender Butterflies
Lavender Fountain
Lavender Garden
Mini Purple Horse
Purple Stallion

Again, if you win all six of these items (even if it takes you every balloon on the dart board to do), you'll be able walk away with the free Snow Stallion as a prize. This Snow Stallion has been released before (along with other items like the Purple Stallion), so make sure to keep that in mind before throwing dozens of Farm Cash at the board.

If you do decide to take a chance at this week's game, even if the Snow Stallion isn't your motivating factor, just be sure to do so within the next week, as the game will reset then, taking your chance at these purple items (and the Snow Stallion) with it.

Will you play this week's FarmVille Mystery Game? Which of the purple items are you most hoping to walk away with? Will you try your luck at winning all six for the Snow Stallion?

Q-Games to tower over Facebook with PixelJunk Monsters Online

Whenever traditional console developers announce Facebook games, they're normally completely different experiences. (Alright, we were just being nice--they're usually nothing more than buzz-builders.) But GameZebo reports that developer Q-Games will launch its hit PS3 tower defense game, PixelJunk Monsters, on Facebook with "Online" following its title.

While its title certainly isn't original, this social version of PixelJunk Monsters is anything but a buzz-builder. According to an early look by GameZebo, the game is in "an early alpha state," and is scheduled to launch in full on Facebook this year. However, it appears that PixelJunk Monsters Online is available to all at the moment, and has about 2,000 monthly players.

Despite that, the game is far from feature-complete, and thankfully the in-game item shop has yet to be open for business. As far as we know, PixelJunk Monsters Online is under development by Q-Games. The basic gameplay of PixelJunk Monsters remains intact: Players create armed towers on top of existing trees to automatically fend off encroaching if adorable enemies.

However, there aren't many types of towers or enemies in the game yet. Q-Games was apparently more worried about laying on the old PixelJunk charm with impressive pseudo-3D visuals with a Candy Land style and a lovely tune. While the game has yet to officially launch on Facebook, you can play it right here to get a taste of what's to come. And what great timing you have, Q-Games: There aren't many tower defense games on Facebook, and yours is one of the best around, we hear.

Are you excited to see PixelJunk Monsters hit Facebook? What other console game franchises do you think would be a fit on Facebook?

PapayaMobile's mobile social game network gets friendly with iOS

OpenFeint and Mobage might want to watch out ... or get a delicious fruit in their logo somehow. Beijing-based PapayaMobile announced that it has expanded its mobile social game network from Android to iOS devices. iPhone and iPad game developers can now incorporate PapayaMobile into their game much like they would OpenFeint or Apple's Game Center.

But not only that, developers can create their own social games from scratch through PapayaMobile's Social Game Engine, and launch said games across both iOS and Android devices at once. PapayaMobile's social game network works across both iOS and Android. This means that if a mobile game uses PapayaMobile on both its iOS and Android versions, players can issue challenges, send game invitations, view leaderboards and more between both versions of the game.

PapayaMobile's main goal is to connect both Android and iOS gamers through a single network, something that can't be said for most mobile social game networks (well, aside from OpenFeint). Surely PapayaMobile hopes this cross-platform move will boost its player base of over 30 million. It looks like the mobile social games arena just met a new challenger.

Well, make that a few new challengers. The first games to hit iOS with PapayaMobile include X-City by Aidi Game, Contagion by 2Clams, and Burger Joint by Arctic Empire. Something tells us Facebook missed a golden opportunity with Connect.

Do you think there's room for another mobile social games network? Which network do you prefer using right now with your mobile games?

Nexon's next social game, Zombie Misfits, looks for brains on Facebook

Alright, we thought it too: "Another zombie game?" But hold on just a second there, naysayers. Nexon's new Facebook game, Zombie Misfits, takes the whole zombie craze in a decidedly different direction. Co-developed by Canadian studio Antic Entertainment, this social take on what's quickly becoming a tired trend turns is a side-scrolling tower defense game.

Wait, according to a release, it's a "cartoon-style apocalyptic tower defense game with an RPG flare." Does that sound different enough for you? And if you ask us, the game's art style looks like something you'd easily find on Cartoon Network.

Ever since Nexon struck gold with MapleStory Adventures, the company has been bullish on Facebook games, but has taken its sweet time. (The publisher likely could have thrown its name on a number of Facebook games this year, but didn't.)

But back to the brain bustin'. Zombie Misfits has players defend survivors of the zombie apocalypse in two-dimensional zones against wave after wave of walking cadavers. To do so, you must place Defenders in key, predefined points in each level to kill off the walkers (thanks, The Walking Dead) before they reach the hovel of "breathers", as tutorial character Slim calls them.

The game features a number of different defenders like the Biker, a club-wielding badass type, and the pistol-toting Trooper--all of which can be modified and upgraded. Of course, you'll need to strategize which Defenders to place as you unlock them to fight the numerous types of zombies. And players can enlist the help of their friends, as per usual. But really, nothing beats the feeling of taking a giant chain saw to a morose mob of undead mouth-breathers.

Compare (hilarious) Apples to Apples on Facebook, mobile this winter

Look, if you've never played Apples to Apples before, just go out to Walmart or something and fork up the 20 bucks. Play the game with a few friends, come back to read this news and you'll understand why we're excited. (Just trust us on this one, OK?) THQ and Mattel have announced that they're working to bring the awesome board game to Facebook and mobile this winter.

Better yet, like Zynga's Words With Friends, the game will be playable across platforms. This means players can challenge their friends in games of goofy comparisons from either Facebook or their mobile device (likely iOS and Android), and their friends can respond from either device. The game is quite simple: One player chooses a card from a deck with an adjective, while the other players choose one card from their hand with a person, place or thing of note. The former then chooses which card they think fits bests, generally based on whether it's funny ... which is almost always the case.

On Facebook and mobile, players will be able to create their own games with their friends or jump into existing games with random players. Through playing Apples to Apples, you'll earn Apple Coins, Apple Cash and Apple Achievements to unlock additional avatars, playing cards and themed backgrounds, according to a release.

THQ and Mattel are also releasing the game for Xbox Live Arcade and PlayStation Network for $10, but we imagine the Facebook and mobile versions will be free. We also imagine that Apples to Apples will create awkward situations when players inexplicably laugh to themselves in public.

Have you ever played the original Apples to Apples card game? Will a game like this become a worthy competitor for the mighty Words With Friends?

Scam Alert: Mario Kart does not exist on Facebook, and likely never will

Nintendo has already established--rather firmly, actually--that its games will never leave Nintendo hardware. Alas, here we are, with yet another attempt at your account information to spread a dastardly scam. According to Internet security firm Sophos's Naked Security blog, a scam that claims Nintendo's popular racer Mario Kart is available for Facebook is circulating.

But it's not just circulating through News Feed posts, but through private messages between Facebook users. If you happen to click on the link that's spreading the fake news, you will arrive at what appears to be a launch page for the game. You absolutely should not click on it, but doing so takes you to an online survey rather than a thrilling race with Mario and friends.

Some users have even told Naked Security that clicking on the link attempts to install a browser extension on their computers. It should go without saying that you should under no circumstances accept the installation, but we're saying it anyway. If you were so unfortunate as to click on it, be quick to delete any News Feed or private messages sent inadvertently by you.
Mario Kart Facebook scam News Feed
And, if you did happen to install anything offered from the scam, be sure to can your computer immediately. Oh, and would you be so kind as to remind your friends that this is a scam? Sure, you'll be a dream crusher, but a computer-saving dream crusher.

Have you ever unfortunately fell prey to a Facebook game scam? What steps did you take to alleviate the situation, and what tips do you have for your fellow social gamers?

Fox ladies, karate masters and robot men will do battle in Prime World

Don't worry, we're a little confused, too. Nival, the Russian social game studio behind King's Bounty: Legions, has released some new images of Prime World. The screen shots reveal a bit more of what's about to go on your PC or Mac (or Android phone and iPhone) in this downloadable strategy game that's said to have deep Facebook Connect support.

For one, the game looks pretty gorgeous, especially the spell effects like fire and what appear to be laser weapons. (Yeah, we have no idea what type of setting Nival is going for at this point.) More important are the characters within the images that are duking it out: You'll see a woman with a fox tail, a necromancer of sorts, a karate master amongst giant robot war machines. Oh, and let's not forget the giant towers and other various defensive structures.

We scored an early look at the game during this year's E3, and game looks to tread on dynamic territory. Actually, that could be said of the simple fact that this is a downloadable, apparently hardcore strategy game that uses Facebook Connect. According to a release, Prime World uses the Unity 3D engine to create its flashy graphics.
Gallery: Prime World (PC, Mac, iOS, Android)
But we think the goofy mash-up of characters is all Nival's doing. Prime World still has not been given a release date, but you can bet we'll follow the trail this game is blazing. You know, if only to see who would win in a fight: a fox lady or a robot with spiked clubs for hands?

What do you think of Prime World so far, based on our preview and these new screens? Will Facebook Connect drive the game to success?

Adventure World Cave of Montezuma Expedition: Everything you need to know

If you've already made your way through Adventure World's "starter" Expeditions, you might be surprised when scrolling through the list today to find a new entry has been added. While we know that Expeditions are already available all of the way to Level 40, this entirely new Expedition sits in between Jungle Run and Mountain Pass, making it now the fourth Expedition on the list. If you're thorough and wish to complete all Expeditions at least once, we've got a guide to help you do just that.

This particular Expedition requires 175 Supplies and two each of Food, Fuel and Water. Your overall goal is to defeat a spider infestation and find Montezuma's Headdress, and you only have two days to accomplish it all. Let's get started!

Montezuma's Headdress

    Recover the Blue Feather
    Recover the Green Feather
    Recover the Red Feather
    Recover the Headdress

While the Professor has successfully located Montezuma's Headdress, you'll quickly learn that it's in pieces and must be gathered bit by bit before this Expedition can be completed. The pieces of the headdress are scattered throughout this fairly complex map, with some of the feathers being perched high atop pillars that must be lowered by activating statues, not entirely unlike the ending of the Treasure Trail Expedition.

Outsmarting Spiders

    Defeat 5 Spiders
    Clear 5 Spider Webs
Ask friends for 10 Bat Houses
Place Bat Houses on Gnarled Trees

Unfortunately, while a few Bat Houses can be found on this map, you won't be able to find all 10, so you do need to ask for your friends' help, and quickly! As for the Spiders, these guys may not immediately be visible on the map, as they fall down from the "ceiling" using lines of web. Spider Webs themselves can be found around the map like a normal piece of debris. As for the Gnarled Trees, these are also found on the map, which put your Bat Houses to good use. In the second picture below, you'll see a Gnarled Tree highlighted in red. By clicking on it when you have a Bat House in your inventory, the Bat House will be hung from the tree.

Montezuma Says

    Solve the First Puzzle
    Solve the Second Puzzle
    Solve the Third Puzzle

As I said above, two of the feathers to the headdress are blocked by puzzles, while a Ruby Vase sits at the end of the third. Even if you'd rather not, you will need to spend some energy going after this Ruby Vase to complete this particular quest, as you must complete all three puzzles. These puzzles give you a series of pillars that animate in order. You must then repeat the animation by clicking on the appropriate statues like in a game of "Simon Says." You'll be able to push a nearby button to see the puzzle repeatedly, if you can't remember the exact order to activate the statues in, so don't worry if you forget to pay attention. Once you complete each puzzle appropriate, its prize will lower so that you can collect it (note: you may not be able to walk directly up to it, but might have to go around, or even use a Grappling Hook to get there).

By finishing these three quests, you will have successfully complete the Cave of Montezuma Expedition. Remember though - even though this is a new addition to the game, it can still be mastered like all others, requiring multiple runs through the Expedition in its entirety. The more you master an Expedition, the higher the rewards become, so feel free to master them all for the best rewards in the end.

Check out the rest of our Adventure World Cheats & Tips right here.

What do you think of this Cave of Montezuma Expedition? Do you think it's too difficult to be placed this early in the Expedition "timeline?"

CityVille Metropolis items take the fun to the big city

If all of the small-scale businesses and homes in CityVille just aren't doing it for you, and you want some larger skyscrapers to sit beside your (probably) large franchises, you're in luck with the release of new Metropolis items in the game today. These items will be available for 15 days, and you'll be able to purchase either a Mystery Crate to try your luck at receiving a random item, or purchase some of these items outright. Fair warning: these items cost City Cash, so I hope you're ready to bust out your wallet.

Infinite Towers II (Home)

    Costs: 110 City Cash
    Population: 4000 - 7000 citizens
    Rent: 532 coins every day

Destiny's Calling (Home)

    Costs: 55 City Cash
    Population: 1350 - 2650 population
Rent: 150 coins every two hours

Oasis Apartments II (Home)

    Costs: 65 City Cash
    Population: 1850 - 3650 citizens
Rent: 200 coins every four hours

Visual Art Academy (Community Building)

    Costs: 70 City Cash
Raises maximum population cap by 5,000 citizens

In addition to these four items, the Metropolis Mystery Crate will give you a chance at one additional item - the Oasis Apartments I - along with three other items above (the Infinite Towers II, Destiny's Calling and Visual Art Academy). A single crate costs 55 City Cash, so unless you only win the Destiny's Calling, you'll really come out ahead over purchasing items individually. Keep in mind though, you might win duplicates in your quest to get all three at a "discount." As for the Oasis Apartments I, the exclusive item to this crate, it comes with a population of 2,000 - 4,000 citizens and provides 251 coins every eight hours in rent.

Again, these items, including the Mystery Crate are only available in the game for a limited time of around 15 days. We'll make sure to let you know if any themed decorations or businesses launch in this theme in the future, so keep checking back with us!

Will you purchase any of these Skyscrapers for use in your town, or will you try your hand with the Mystery Crate to see if you can walk away with an expensive item for "cheap?"

FarmVille Lighthouse Cove Chapter 2 Goals: Everything you need to know

Since Zynga has changed the layout of goals in FarmVille's newest Lighthouse Cove expansion, so that everyone is on the same page via quickly expiring goal series, you might be currently left with little to do (as the goals will disappear whether you've finished them or not). In order to make us all busy again, Zynga has launched a series of three new goals in the game which bring us to Chapter 2 in the overall Lighthouse Cove story. This chapter contains more of the same in terms of tasks. You'll need to collect some items, plant some crops and so on, so nothing should be overly difficult. You'll have a week to finish these three goals, so let's get started.

Get a Moove On

    Collect 3 Cow Treats
    Harvest 55 Hay
    Harvest Lighthouse Cove

For this particular goal, it doesn't matter what level you've reached in the repair of your Lighthouse Cove, so long as you harvest it when it's "ready." Your opportunity comes around once per day (if you're routine in collecting from it), so at least you won't be too delayed if you've already harvested your Cove before these goals roll around to your account. As for the Cow Treats, they're earned though a general news post on your wall. Finishing this first goal gives you 100 XP, a River Otter and 5,000 coins.

A Leash on Life

    Get 3 Cow Tethers
    Harvest 55 Kennebec Potatoes
Improve the Cove to Level 2

If you've been working on repairing your Lighthouse Cove ever since you landed in the new farm, I would be incredibly surprised if you haven't already reached Level 2, but if not, here's our guide to upgrading so you can finish the task quickly. As for the Cow Tethers - you guessed it - they're earned through another general wall post. Complete this goal and you'll earn 200 XP, a Sailor Gnome and 2,500 coins.

A Spoonful of Sugar

    Get 3 Sugar Cubes
Harvest 55 Butter & Sugar Corn
    Make Creamed Corn Two Times

The Sugar Cubes are earned through one final news feed post on your wall, while the Creamed Corn is a recipe inside your Restaurant. A single Creamed Corn preparation requires three Butter & Sugar Corn bushels, along with three Tarragon bushels and a Pepper bushel. Finishing this final goal gives you 300 XP, a Black Gum Tree and 2,500 coins.

While the rewards for these goals may not be overly exciting, at least the goals themselves are relatively easy to match. We'll make sure to let you know when Chapter 3 of these goals releases, so keep checking back with us!

FarmVille Lighthouse Cove Chapter 2 Bonus Goals: Everything you need to know

If you thought the original Bonus Challenge goals in FarmVille's Lighthouse Cove were difficult, you may not be excited to hear that there is now a second set of goals that have also been given the "Bonus" treatment. These three goals appear alongside the goals from Chapter 2 in the Lighthouse Cove story. We'll tell you flat out - one goal requires you to expand your Lighthouse Cove farm, which is currently only available to do with Farm Cash. Keep that in mind when you decide whether or not to actively finish these goals.

Bonus Quest 4

    Harvest Lighthouse Cove
    Harvest 55 Tarragon
    Complete 1 Orchard

While these tasks aren't incredibly difficult, they might be a bit time consuming depending on how big your Lighthouse Cove already is. That is, if you haven't already expanded your Lighthouse Cove, you won't be allowed to plant 55 crops at a time, so you'll need to do two plantings to reach the 55 total. If you finish this first Bonus Quest (the fourth overall for the farm - hence the name), you'll receive 500 XP, an Unwither, a Livestock Baby Animal and 2,500 coins.

Bonus Quest 5

    Harvest 70 Darrow Blackberries
    Make Blackberry Ice Cream Twice
Expand your farm to an Inlet Garden

Blackberry Ice Cream is available to craft inside your Restaurant, and requires three Darrow Blackberry, two Chandler Blueberry and three Strawberry bushels. To finish this particular task, you'll not only have to set the recipe to craft twice, but will also have to wait the six hour period for them to finish. As for the Inlet Garden, here's the task that I warned you of earlier. As of this writing, an Inlet Garden farm is only available for 40 Farm Cash, and that's after you go through the Coastal Patch farm that costs 30 Farm Cash. That is, if you're looking to complete this particular goal, you'll need to shell out 70 Farm Cash with no option for coin-spending instead. If you decide to go through with this goal, and can finish it, you'll receive 1,000 XP, a Speckled Alder tree and 5,000 coins.

Bonus Quest 6

    Complete a Zoo
    Harvest 70 Red Clover
    Harvest 70 Chandler Blueberries

For this goal, the requirements are toned down a bit, at least in terms of the cost to your wallet. By the time you make it this far, you'll have the ability to plant more than the starting 35 plots of land on your farm, so the crop tasks will be easier by default. As for the Zoo, this is built using 30 ingredients that can gather from your friends. It's not an incredibly difficult building to complete, so check out our guide to doing so for details. If you can finish this final bonus goal for Chapter 2, you'll receive 500 XP, a Chimpanzee and 2,500 coins.

We've been told that additional goals will be launching in the game every week, so keep checking back with us as we'll bring you everything you need to know about the future Chapter 3 goals in Lighthouse Cove and beyond.

What do you think of this trio of Bonus Goals? Are they more difficult or easier than the first set? Will you purchase the farm expansions with Farm Cash or will you skip that goal entirely?

Zynga Mobile Chief: Mobile is a 'new social gaming frontier'

Everyone else is right there with ya, big red. During an interview with The Guardian, Zynga Mobile SVP David Ko said, "We believe that mobile represents a new social gaming frontier. We've always said we want Zynga to be the best content creators in the world, and we are platform agnostic." More and more Zynga fans expect to play its games on their phones and tablets, which wasn't exactly where CEO Mark Pincus's heart was many moons ago.

Regardless of whether Zynga has been creating mobile games since Zynga Poker hit iOS devices in 2008, it was only the advent of Facebook Connect that motivated the company to dig deeper into the platform. From that we got games like FarmVille and CityVille Hometown, neither of which are feature-complete versions of their Facebook counterparts. (The latter of which is a different game entirely.)

Now, The Guardian reports that Zynga is looking to take advantage of mobile devices' key features like cameras and accelerometers in future games. And tablets appear to be a big deal in Zynga HQ--Ko told The Guardian the company was "very bullish" on the idea. And HTML5, the emergent web coding language that's been touted as the proverbial messiah for cross-platform social gaming, is something Ko admits the company is interested in.

"HTML5 is interesting, although I do feel it is early," Ko told The Guardian. "With those acquisitions, you can see into our thinking in this area a little bit." (Ko there is referring to companies like Newtoy and Dextrose.) Zynga already released one game through HTML5: Mafia Wars Atlantic City.

However, HTML5 games have yet to achieve the complexity of, say, Hanging With Friends, which Zynga just released on Android devices. Regardless, all eyes--including Zynga's--are on those 4-inch screens that rarely leave your side. And with companies as unlikely as Capcom making buku bucks on mobile games, you can bet Zynga is a' hustlin'.

Are you waiting for more mobile games from Zynga? What would you like to see the developer do next on smartphones?

FarmVille Horse Paddock: Everything you need to know

Back in the middle of August, FarmVille saw the launch of the Wildlife Habitat breeding building, and at the time we were told that six (and then seven) new buildings would be released in all. We didn't know when those buildings would eventually release, but as time passed we've been led to here. The final animal breeding building has launched in FarmVille, the Horse Paddock.

Similar to the Cow Pasture, this Horse Paddock is specifically for Horses, and it gives you an opportunity to store those horses and randomly breed those that are inside. You'll only need to have a single "type" of each Horse for it to be possible to breed a matching Foal when harvesting the building, but as of right now, a few Horses or Unicorns may not be able to be stored. (This is probably because either they're coded differently, or Zynga just forgot.)

Of course, before you can actually use your Horse Paddock, you need to build it. You'll need three building materials, two of which are new: 10 each of Logs, Saddles and Bridles. These Logs are the same logs that are used to repair/upgrade the Lighthouse Cove on your new farm, so it will be up to you to decide when exactly to divert your efforts there into building this Horse Paddock. As for gathering these ingredients, you can do so by asking friends through individual gift requests, or you can purchase them outright for 1 Farm Cash each.

Once its construction is complete, you'll be given a free Cream Draft Horse. You can store up to 20 Horses in total inside your new building, and you can have as many Paddocks as you like, provided you collect the building materials to build each on individually. With this feature also comes the ability to grow individual Foals into adults with Farm Cash. You can keep them as babies forever (as before), but if you've received a free Foal from a friend and can't wait for the Nursery Barn to grow it into an adult, you can now pay to do so outright.

Remember, both Foal and Calf mastery are coming soon to the game, if you need any extra incentive to build one of these buildings--and fast! Also, with the release of the Horse Paddock, the Horse Stable is now unavailable to buy/build from the market. You can keep your existing Horse Stable(s), but you'll also be given the option to trade in all of your Horse Stables to receive exclusive Horses and Animal Feed. Then again, as so many users lost their Cows entirely when doing the same for the new Cow Pasture building, I'd suggest holding off on that for now ... or forever.

Check out the rest of our FarmVille Cheats & Tips right here.

What do you think of the Horse Paddock? Do you prefer it over the Horse Stable, even though it has less storage capacity?

FarmVille Horse Paddock Goals: Everything you need to know

With the launch of the Horse Paddock in FarmVille, many farmers are probably wondering just when the matching set of goals will arrive. If you're like most, you probably don't have them in your game yet, as they are on a very slow rollout. For those that do have them, however, you'll see that this set of six goals has a 16-day time limit (perhaps less by the time these roll around to everyone), and will reward you some Horses for completing them. Here's a guide for doing just that:

Horsing Around

    Get 6 Horse Combs
    Place 1 Horse Paddock
    Buy 3 Orange Hay Bales

The Horse Combs are earned through a general news feed post. The full six people can click on this post to actually send you rewards, so you shouldn't have to ask for it twice. As for the Horse Paddock, note that this goal doesn't require you to have completed the construction on the building - just place its base. Finally, the Orange Hay Bales are available from the store for 125 coins each. Finishing this first goal, no matter how simple it might seem, actually gives you some great rewards: 50 XP, 2,500 coins and a Pink Saddled Horse. To be specific, the horse's body is white, but the saddle is pink.

There She Is, Miss Equestrian...

    Get 6 Horse Tiaras
    Buy 2 Horse Topiaries
    Harvest 10 Horses

For this one, we're not sure if Horses placed inside your Horse Paddock (or previously owned Horse Stables will count), so if you try it once and they don't, just pull some Horses out of storage and wait for them to become ready to harvest on their own. To collect the Tiaras, you'll post another item to your news feed asking all friends to help at once. You can then finish this goal off by purchasing the Horse Topiaries, which cost just 100 coins each in the store. For completing this second goal, you're given 50 XP, 2,500 coins, a single Animal Feed and a Fancy Hitching Post decoration.

Sugar High

    Get 6 Sugar Cubes
    Complete a Horse Paddock
    Harvest 100 Vegetables

It doesn't matter which vegetable crop you harvest, so long as you harvest 100 individual squares of them. While you wait for those crops to grow, you can collect the Sugar Cubes via a general news feed post, and can complete the Horse Paddock by collecting its 30 required building ingredients. Check out our guide to the Horse Paddock to see exactly what we mean. Finishing this goal gives you 50 XP, 2,500 coins and a Cream Stallion.

Horseplay

    Get 9 Carrots on Sticks
    Harvest a Horse Paddock
    Harvest 75 Wheat

Each Horse Paddock is available to harvest once every 24 hours, so if you happen to collect from one right before you receive this goal, just wait until the next day to finish this one off. In the meantime, you can post a general news post asking for the Carrots on Sticks and can harvest the wheat as well. For finishing this goal, you'll receive 50 XP, 2,500 coins, five units of Animal Feed and a Blingy Water Trough decoration. Apparently, these horses are fairly high maintenance.

Giddy Up!

    Get 9 Stylish Horse Shoes
Master Cream Stallion to Level 1
    Harvest 50 Mint

The fastest way to master any Horse will be to make sure they're in storage, so that they can be collected from once per day (rather than once every few days when they're outside of buildings). Just place the Cream Stallion into either Horse building on your farm (that is, if you didn't trade in your Horse Stable for feed and prizes) and collect from it routinely to reach Level 1 before this goal series expires. Oh, and you guessed it--the Stylish Horse Shoes come from a general news post on your wall. Finish off this goal and you'll receive 50 XP, 2,500 coins, five units of Animal Feed and something for your avatar: a Jockey Outfit.

Saddle Up!

    Get 9 Horse Saddles
Place 10 Horses in a Horse Paddock
    Harvest 50 Spinach

If you already have 10 or more Horses in a Horse Paddock and this step doesn't automatically complete for you, just pull them back out and replace them in the building. That should clear up any "bugs." One final news feed post will help you earn the Horse Saddles, which you can collect while waiting for your Spinach to grow, which takes 14 hours. When finishing this goal, you will have completed the Horse Paddock goal series in its entirety, and will receive 50 XP, 2,500 coins and a Chestnut Mini Stallion (a dark brown miniature horse) as your final rewards.

Just remember--these goals are on a time limit, so if you like these prizes more than those, say, for completing the Chapter 2 Goals in the Lighthouse Cove farm, feel free to prioritize any way you'd like to receive the best prizes in your eyes. Happy farming!
